The Avon Cadets were affiliated to The Light Infantry and The Gloucestershire
Regiment, two regiments of the southwest region. Those are their badges on the
flag. The stringed powder horn is a traditional symbol of light infantry. The
Gloucestershire Regt was awarded the Sphinx badge for action in Egypt against
Napoleon.
